black atlantic
ALBUM — 2023
Black Atlantic is an album which explores the themes of identity and belonging through the music of the Black diaspora. The album began with Tamilore interviewing 8 young Black people from a range of different diasporic backgrounds in his hometown of London, and at Stanford University. He then wrote original music and chose covers to address different themes that emerged throughout the interviews, intricately weaving in samples to each track. The music combines a range of genres including jazz, afrobeat, reggae, hip-hop and more to authentically these stories of diasporic identity and belonging.
The project was developed as Tamilore’s final year capstone project through the Honors In The Arts program at Stanford University. The project was awarded a Robert M. Golden Medal for Excellence in the Humanities and Creative Arts by the University.
